Marvell // London To Atlanta
29 JunI honestly didn’t pick this song just because it mentions the word “banger” at least 5 times or more. That is not a sure-fire way to make a killer track. Take me for example, I regularly call myself Terrell and pray I will wake up 6ft3 and drafted into the NBA, but everyday I get out of bed and am still a skinny white kid with as much chance of playing basketball at any real level as I do of being repeatedly struck by lightening. I digress. This tune, despite self-proclaiming itself a banger, actually lives up to its own hype. From the intro, which is toooooooo sick, it doesn’t disappoint. Even better, free download their whole mixtape below.

Yosi Horikawa // Wandering
29 JunOriginal. It is one of those adjectives that isn’t particularly precise and that gets thrown about quite a lot, and tends to apply to things that really aren’t that original at all. Especially after clothes. Adidas Originals is really a way of selling you old adidas stuff, or the latest shit a drug-addled Jeremy Scott has come up that no human being should put within a 5 metre radius of themselves. Yosi Horikawa however is original, and deservedly so. Having destroyed the Dome tent at Sonar, Yosi is someone to definitely keep an eye peeled for. Born in Osaka, Yosi first started making music at age 12, recording in his bedroom using his voice and various found and made sounds – tapping on the side of his bed soon became a kick drum for example. Overdubbing across two tape decks, Yosi started on his own musical journey in a DIY style that continues to define him today. “Wandering” is nothing if not original. Cop it for free below.

Coki-Tortured
28 JunThe other half of Digital Mystikz Coki needs no introduction. His role in the creation of dubstep as a genre is central and unequivocal. Starting in the South London suburb of Norwood producing tunes with Mala in the early 00′s, Coki was at the forefront of the birth of dubstep, alongside the likes of Skream, Benga and Hatcha and the whole Big Apple Records fam (though it must be noted that Coki has stayed true to his routes, and isn’t creating bate pop like Skream, or making 30 minute tracks for the Gatwick Express like Benga…). This tune appeared alongside another absolute banger, “shattered” which is well worth your time. Tortured, despite being an ’06 cut, sounds as fresh today as ever. If you want to hear real Dubstep, the kind that shouldn’t make you cringe, or think of people with half a haircut then this is your jam.

Doc Daneeka-Murdah Strings
27 JunSwansea may well be the least likely place to birth a top notch UK funky act of the calibre of Doc Daneeka, but sometimes perceptions can be wrong. You could be forgiven for thinking that the only thing funky about Swansea is the smell, but one listen to Murdah Strings will set you straight. A classic cut of UK funky, with horror-movie style synths over conga-led percussion, this cut is a pure dance-floor shaker.

Von D & PhePhe-Love Music
27 JunParisian Von D is rapidly ensuring that he is one not to ignore. Having remixed the likes of Skream, worked with rappers such as Foreign Beggars, and been repped in mixes by acclaimed Dj’s like Craze and the infamous tastemaker Giles Peterson, this is an artist definitely on the ascendent. Love Music is the opener on his latest album “Daydreaming” and opens things soulfully, and PhePhe’s vocals glide over the piano-laden beat.
